Tenth Forum 2009

The Tenth Global Forum on Bioethics in Research (GFBR10) will be held in Santiago, Chile from 2 - 4 September 2009. The Chilean Ministry of Health is pleased to be hosting this event jointly with the University of Chile and the University of Santiago as associated institutions.

The theme of the forum, conflicts of interest in health research, is a result of reflections arising from the project: Latin American and European Ethical Regulation Systems of Biomedical Research (EULABOR). It was also found that despite widespread awareness of this issue through existing international and national guidelines/ declarations/ regulations, increasing cases, allegations, and confirmations of conflict of interest show that the issue remains unresolved.

A challenge of this magnitude requires a room for discussion and reflection that is wide and diverse in character, such as the platform provided by the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research.

Who can attend GFBR10?

About 100 invited participants attend each year the Global Forum on Bioethics in Research, with the emphasis on those from developing countries and transitional societies; this number has been chosen to allow maximum participation in discussions. For GFBR10, full funding will be available to sponsor delegates from developing/transitional countries, especially from Latin American countries. Applicants from other countries are welcome to apply if they can self-fund attendance. Part-funding may also be available to some delegates. The aim is to have a balance of delegates from all parts of the world, with a majority of sponsored delegates.
